Living sustainability at the Alpenhotel PernerThe conscious use of our resources is an important part of our operating philosophy in economic, social and ecological terms.
As a family business in the 3rd generation, we are aware of the need to manage and invest strategically. As a winter sports hotel we use one of the most sensitive but also roughest alpine natural landscapes in the Alps. Only by acting responsibly can this be preserved for the future.
Our hotel employs around 55 people. Friendly interaction, perfect working conditions and fair pay are the basis for a working atmosphere that we are proud of. We see our employees as the most important asset for the lasting satisfaction of our guests.
Our productsThe use of regional products is an integral part of our business.
We use mostly regional products in our business, for example we cook about 4 tons of Lungauer Eachtling - a local top product directly from the farm - in one season.
The Lungau - the southernmost district of the province - is an inner alpine basin at over 1,000 m above sea level and is separated from its neighboring landscapes by mountain ranges and valleys. This has a decisive influence on the climate and vegetation, making the Lungau a potato-growing region of great value and one of the best potato-growing areas in Austria. The term "Eachtling" stands for the potato in Lungau and is used as a brand name by the Lungau potato farmers. The natural, humus-rich, sandy soils - primary rock weathered soils - are ideal for growing the best potatoes. Excellent quality table potatoes with high-quality vegetable protein, many vitamins and valuable minerals ripen here according to traditional cultivation methods. With its high nutritional value and versatile uses, the Lungauer Eachtling meets the highest standards. As with any natural product, its taste and cooking properties depend not only on the variety but also on the weather and location.
Fresh cow's milk is delivered daily from the farm to Hotel Perner. From the local dairy farmer in Untertauern.
WarmthThe Hotel Perner has been connected to the Obertauern district heating system since 2003.
An eight-kilometer-long district heating network supplies more than 100 restaurants and hotels. The biomass heating plant supplies around 20 million kilowatt hours of heat every year. By using district heating, Obertauern makes a significant contribution to environmental protection: around 35,000 bulk cubic meters of local biomass are used to generate heat every year. This saves 6.5 million kilograms of CO2 compared to heating oil. This amount corresponds to the CO2 emissions of around 1,200 trips around the world by a mid-range car.
